How is college different to high school? (3 weeks in)

Happy October! It's nearly Halloween now - time is flying fast.

I started college 3 weeks ago so I thought it would be cool to talk about some of the differences between college and school and to share my experience of how it is.

How is college different to school?

  1. Times. The lessons are an hour and a half instead of 50 minutes, some days I only have 1 lesson and some days I don't have to be in college until 11:45. Regarding the latter comment, this can be particularly inconvenient because I often feel like I'm hanging around for ages not being productive.
  2. Free lessons. The reason why I start so late on some days and have so much time on my hands is that I have a lot of frees. I usually go home for these (I live 3 mins away from the college) and write notes/make flashcards. However, it is very tempting to just sit and watch Youtube (which I may or may not have done last week...).
  3. Independence. It is up to you to get work done during your free lessons. It's your responsibility to keep up with your own work and make sure you understand everything. But, if you know that you feel rubbish and you need a break during one of your free lessons - you can, and that's empowering. 
  4. Attitudes of teachers/students. The teachers feel more genuine and are more relaxed in lessons. For my subjects at least, the other people genuinely want to be there to learn about the subject - which makes lessons enjoyable and fun.

The Day Before GCSEs | Thought Bubble

Hey guys I take my first GCSE exam on Tuesday. In some ways, I am terrified. The thought that two years of solid hard work could all go down the drain if I have a bad day is scary. I have bombed mock exams in the past so I know what it feels like to walk out of the exam hall feeling like it's all gone wrong. But to do that on the real exams would be devastating. 5 things to do before a new school term

Hello In England, the school year is split into 3 terms and 6 half terms. At the end of each term there is a two week break. At the end of this break I like to do a few things to get ready for the new term. 1. Sort out my pencil case. At the end of the term, I am usually left with a pencil case full of pens that don't work. So I just swap out the old ones with new ones. The last thing you want is to go back to school after Christmas with 7 pens that have all run out. 2. Re-organise my school stuff. I put all of my books in one place, stock up on equipment, put revision in folders etc. 3. Tidy my bedroom. Completely sort it out. I get rid of all of the things that I don't use or don't need and re-organise everything else.This only needs to be done 3-4 times per school year. 4. Get a lot of sleep.
